Directing Lesson Plans and Video: An Adventure of the Mind

An introduction to directing plays and directing for TV are the featured lesson plans for this performing arts video. Eugene Ionesco said, "A work of art is above all an adventure of the mind." Directors create an image in their mind and then set out to make it happen by organizing the resources they need.

Synopsis of the TV program

Professionals: Eileen Moushey, writes her own mysteries and gets to take them from the kernel of an idea to fruition on the stage. Martha Franks is a high school drama teacher, who takes an existing script and makes it happen. And Kerry Palucsak, is a cable TV director who must take on any subject he's given and make it look good.

School activity: Students discuss what it takes to direct their own TV shows.

Follow-up Activities:

Our lesson plans build an understanding of what it takes to direct and then provides an outline for a student discussion on whether a director is a sage on the stage or a guide on the side.
